It became world news when the Spanish national team star was exposed to sexual abuse after the World Championship victory in 2023 when she was kissed on the mouth by the Spanish football chairman Luis Rubiales during the award ceremony.

Rubiales, who was forced to resign as chairman, was convicted in February this year for sexual abuse for the scandalous kiss, fines of just over 120,000 kronor and a contact ban with Hermoso for one year.

Hermoso is Spain's most prolific goalscorer in the women's national team, 57 goals in 123 matches, and has not appeared in the national team since last October.

Jennifer Hermoso, who plays for the Mexican Tigres, made her last championship in the Olympic Games in Paris last summer where Spain finished fourth.

I talked to "Jenni" at the beginning of the year. She came to the first gathering (after the Olympic Games) and did not get much playing time. We have assessed her in a professional manner and talked to her coach several times, says national team coach Montse Tomé.

Stars Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati were included in the 25-man squad presented by national team coach Montse Tomé. The final squad will consist of 23 players.

Spain will play in the same group as Portugal, Italy and Belgium.

The European Championship in Switzerland will take place from 2-27 July.
