The Spaniard Luis Rubiales was convicted earlier this week for kissing national team player Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth after the World Championship final in 2023.

"This will, after all, create an important precedent in a social environment where much remains to be done," Hermoso writes on Instagram.

Rubiales was convicted of sexual assault with a fine of 10,800 euros, equivalent to approximately 120,000 kronor, according to several media outlets. Rubiales was also sentenced to a one-year restraining order and is not allowed to be within a 200-meter radius of Jennifer Hermoso, according to elDiario.es.

He was, however, acquitted of the charge of unlawful coercion.

34-year-old Hermoso has stated that the kiss occurred without consent. Rubiales has claimed that the kiss was mutual, but unfortunate.

Both Rubiales and Hermoso have announced that they will appeal the verdict.

"My heart is full of every person who has been, is, and will continue to be with me in this struggle," Hermoso writes.
