"I've followed HV71 basically since I was born, and the club is close to my heart, so I'm very happy today," he tells the club's website.
The 19-year-old has signed a two-year contract with HV71 and the club's board has decided he can wear the No. 1 shirt if he wants. Herman Liv's father, Stefan, who died in a plane crash, had that number, which was then retired.
"I haven't thought about it much, but I've always had number 1 throughout my career, and that number means a lot to me, so I'm grateful that the opportunity exists," he says.
Herman Liv, who was part of Sweden's World Championship team, played last season for Almtuna in the Swedish Hockey League, on loan from SHL club Örebro.
