In a trade fair hall in Nacka, there is a high level of activity. Volunteers sit in pairs at long rows of tables, counting votes for the County Administrative Board.
Many of them are retirees, others are students or people who have taken time off from work.
In Stockholm County, there are four million ballots from the three elections that are sent here by the municipalities for counting. This is where the personal checks are registered and invalid votes are reviewed.
Birgit Dahlström is working her sixth election as a vote counter. She receives little compensation for her efforts, but for both her and her colleague Zofia Tucinska, it is rather the chance to participate in the democratic process that attracts them.
It is a contribution to transparency and to making things fair and correct, says Zofia Tucinska.
The counting of votes for the Riksdag is expected to be completed on Friday. The municipal and regional elections will take another week.
There are no major differences between the preliminary and final count - just individual votes. Most often, votes that were previously declared invalid because, for example, there were duplicate ballots in the envelopes are deemed valid.
It's usually very similar to the preliminary count. And those votes go in slightly different directions. So statistically, there's very little difference, says Hans Lind, who is the election coordinator at the County Administrative Board.
