All ballots from the church election in Vårgårda pastorate were destroyed before they were counted and the Election Review Board has now decided on re-election in the election for church council and diocesan council.

"By mistake, all election material was destroyed," the committee writes in a press release, noting that all candidates thus "received zero votes in the final count."

In the election for the diocesan council, the election must be redone in the entire Kulling constituency, which includes Vårgårda.

“The decisions have not been taken lightly,” says Lars Seger, chairman of the Election Review Board, in the press release.

In Vittinge parish in the Uppsala diocese, the election for the church council also had to be rerun. There, after the election, “a plastic envelope containing all the ballot papers” disappeared, and no mandates could be distributed.
