Spain is the favorite, followed by England and France in joint second place, then Germany, Portugal, Argentina, the Netherlands and Brazil.
Despite being the favorite, there is only a 14.5 percent chance that Spain will lift the trophy, while Brazil can be seen as a dark horse with a 4.7 percent chance of victory.
The model is based on data from betting companies and transfer markets that calculate the strengths of teams and players. In step two, the data is combined with other information about the teams.
The results of all World Cup matches are then simulated; this process is repeated 100,000 times.
