To mark the site, Ikea has now erected a permanent monument in the form of two granite armchairs designed by Magnus Elebäck.
To identify the point estimated to have received the most hours of sunshine over the past twenty years, a high-resolution satellite-based climate database was used that maps how solar radiation is distributed across Sweden.
Once the area was identified, the next step was to determine the exact area. A topographical analysis of elevation, slope, exposure and shading identified the precise point where the sun historically had the best opportunity to reach the ground for the greatest number of hours.
