The Swedish Public Employment Service has compiled all the holiday jobs that employers have put in the job bank for the summer. The statistics refer to the period through January, so they should be seen as a snapshot of the situation.
It's a similar picture to last year, where healthcare accounts for half of all jobs, says Kerstin Eriksson.
53,000 jobs
There are currently around 53,000 summer jobs available through the Swedish Public Employment Service. Three out of four require only a high school education and, in some cases, some work experience.
Healthcare and care jobs are at the top, as usual, and prospects are good in many professions because of high demand for personnel.
For example, becoming a nursing assistant is a wise career choice, says Eriksson.
The same can be said for jobs in the correctional service, an employer crying out for staff. 568 of 3,370 summer job vacancies in the Stockholm region are for correctional officers, an unusually high figure.
The stores are also asking for significantly more summer workers. Perhaps retailers are breathing easier after a tougher economic period.
It's at least a sign in the right direction, even though many factors may come into play, says Kerstin Eriksson.

“Good chance”
Summer jobs aren't just for students. The unemployed can also take advantage.
It's a good chance to enter the job market, she says.
The Swedish Employment Agency is far from alone in providing jobs. There are private employment agencies, and municipalities usually offer special summer jobs for younger people, such as high school students. Or you can simply contact the employers:
Sometimes it's important to think outside the box - contact the employer where you want to work, advises Kerstin Eriksson.
