Apart from the British Open, which Stenson won in 2016, the veteran has not played on the European Tour since January 2023, according to Svensk Golf. A few months later, he left for the LIV Tour.
But the return, and Thursday's first round in Odense, was tough for Stenson. Admittedly, he rolled in a birdie on the second hole and was at -1 until the 15th hole.
There, however, there was a double bogey, followed by a bogey on the 17th. A total of 74 strokes, two over par, leaves Stenson in tied 118th place.
After the competition in Denmark, Stenson's plan is to play on the veterans' tour, PGA Tour Champions, in Michigan at the end of the month.
Frenchman Felix Mory leads the competition in Denmark after the first day. He shot 65, seven under par.
