Columbus is currently in 13th place out of 15 in the MLS Eastern Conference, with 13 points from 14 games. Too weak, according to the club's general manager, Issa Tall.
"We are convinced that we have enough talent in the squad to compete consistently for titles, and we believe that this change gives us the best conditions to achieve that goal during the remaining matches of the season," Tall said, according to the newspaper.
Henrik Rydström has previously won the Swedish Championship with Malmö FF and joined Columbus ahead of this year's season. Analyst Mak Pakhei, who worked with Rydström in Malmö, will also leave the club.
