Henrik Rönnlöf Castegren, 30, apologized after the 3-2 away win against Malmö FF (MFF) in the Swedish Football League.
"It was not aimed at any MFF supporters to provoke them. It was just an internal thing within the family and, unfortunately, it was caught on TV," Henrik Rönnlöf Castegren told Aftonbladet.
The Swedish Football Association's disciplinary committee nevertheless believes that the gesture was so inappropriate that it should result in a two-match suspension, not least because the match was deemed to have an "increased risk of disorder".
"To make a highly inappropriate and obscene gesture towards the audience in such a context risks both damaging the reputation of the sport and giving rise to such a negative response from the audience that could have affected public order."
