The national team rider jumped flawlessly in the preliminary round, in one of the fastest times. But a crash in the jump-off ruined the chance for a real top placing. Instead, it was a sixth place, just like three years ago when Hellström and Cicci broke through in the World Cup in Lyon.
The points gained now place Hellström in twelfth place in the Western European league – and in a final spot.
After the preliminary round, Hellström stated, according to the magazine Ridsport :
Cicci made it look easy. It was a great feeling, she loves this competition and so do I. She's not old, she's 14, but these days I don't take any round for granted. Every time I get to go in with her I'm grateful.
On Odina van't Klapscheut, Petronella Andersson was the second Swedish rider in Lyon. A breakdown and timing error thwarted the jump-off. Andersson instead showed her form in Saturday evening's 1.60m jump, which she won in tough competition.
Frenchman Olivier Perreau won the World Cup competition on home soil.
