Hedvig Lindahl has been invited by FIFA to a legends match in Rio de Janeiro ahead of the 2027 World Cup. However, the 189-cap national team goalkeeper is boycotting the match in protest against FIFA.

Lindahl wrote just over a month ago that FIFA, the international football federation, should be boycotted after the decision to award a peace prize to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Now she herself has a reason to boycott FIFA.

"My relationship with Rio and Brazil is filled with joy. I would love to go there, to reunite with Brazil and help take women's football to where it should be. I would love to help FIFA use all its power to do good," the 42-year-old writes on Instagram and continues:

"But unfortunately, the only way I could help now is to lend my brand to legitimize the Peace Prize. Unfortunately, I can't support that."

Lindahl participated and won Olympic silver in Rio 2016. She ended her elite career in 2024.
