Hedman recorded two assists, but it wasn't enough when Tampa Bay fell at home in the decisive match against Florida. The latter thereby took home the series in the first playoff round with 4–1.

Washington, with Rasmus Sandin on the team, on the other hand, won both the night's match and the series against Montreal with 4–1.

Earlier, among others, New York Rangers' Mika Zibanejad and Filip Forsberg have accepted playing in the World Championship since their teams missed the Stanley Cup.

Other names that may become relevant are star goalkeeper Jacob Markström and point king Jesper Bratt, New Jersey, were eliminated by Carolina on Tuesday night.

The World Championship in ice hockey is played this year in Stockholm and Danish Herning, May 9–25.

Corrected: In an earlier version, it was incorrectly stated that Rasmus Sandin is eliminated from the Stanley Cup.
