Swedish Sara Hector has shown fine form in giant slalom lately. The 32-year-old took home the latest giant slalom competition, in American Killington, in November.
And after the first run under Saturday's competition in Semmering, Austria, Hector had a striking position to take a new top placement. Before the final run, the Swede was third, only 24 hundredths behind leading Federica Brignone and nine behind second-placed Lara Gut-Behrami.
Hector went out 37 hundredths ahead of leading Alice Robinson, and when she crossed the finish line, she also took over the lead and thereby secured a podium position. But it would get even better.
There was nothing Brignone could do about it, but Hector finished second, 57 hundredths behind, and took her second podium position for the season.
Estelle Alphand also advanced to the second run, as the 22nd fastest. But in the second run, the Swede lost three positions and finished 25th.
Hanna Aronsson Elfman, Lisa Nyberg, and Hilma Lövblom were all outside the top 30 and missed the second run.
