Johanna Matintalo celebrated her first World Cup victory. The Finn was strongest in the sprint duel against American Jessie Diggins and Norwegian Astrid Øyre Slind.

The Swedes had a tough day in the classic mass start over 20 km, the last race before the Olympics.

The selection team also didn't have their best day at work. Several Swedish riders pointed out that they didn't have good enough equipment.

“I had to work very hard”

But it was said more as an explanation, less as an apology.

Linn Svahn finished in seventh place as the top Swedish skier in Goms.

Two years ago it was one of the fastest 20 km we did, but it felt sluggish today. I kept trying to work on it and keep my enthusiasm up. It felt like I had to work very hard in many parts.

"I still think I kept the flame alive. When it breaks, it breaks. It was good to be able to keep going in such a tough race," she tells Viaplay.

Maja Dahlqvist was tenth in the haze, fog and heavy wind - something she was completely satisfied with.

"A stable result, a stable race. It felt okay. It's a long 20 km, so I mostly tried to ski well and not stress, but make wise decisions."

"Now I hope I can improve my form for the Olympics," she tells Viaplay.

Respect for height

In-form Moa Ilar, at the top of the overall World Cup where she is battling with Diggins, finished twelfth.

Ilar found it difficult to compete at high altitude.

"It's tough. I still think I had a good day, but I didn't really dare to take any chances given the high altitude. You're a little close to the limit all the time and you don't dare to step over it."

Emma Ribom was forced to stop the race after just five kilometers due to stomach problems.

Several top skiers chose to forgo the competition to prepare for what awaits on the Olympic tracks in Val di Fiemme in a few weeks.

Recent Jerringpris winner Jonna Sundling, Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson were among the strongest skiers who did not start in Goms.
