Weather warnings have been issued in several places in the Balkans. In both Bosnia and Albania, temperatures are expected to reach up to 40 degrees. Rescue services are working to put out fires on the peninsula, but there is no danger to life.
In war-torn Ukraine, authorities are struggling to prepare its already vulnerable electricity grid for the heat.
According to calculations by AFP, at least 130 million people in Europe are in areas where temperatures are expected to rise above 35 degrees.
The intense heat wave has been blanketing Western Europe for about ten days. France has been the most affected, with several heat records broken.
