According to the entertainment site, 83-year-old Mann was taken to hospital by ambulance after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
The shot reportedly went off as Mann was holstering his firearm during a visit to a shooting range in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, police have confirmed the incident. They are said to have responded to the shooting range after receiving a call about gunfire.
Michael Mann has directed, among other films, the star-studded 1995 action film "Heat", which is getting a sequel. He has also directed blockbusters such as "Ferrari", "Ali" and "The Last of the Mohicans".
