TT has contacted the country's regions regarding what is offered to employees who may consider moving part or all of their vacation this coming summer.
Just like a couple of years ago when the same survey was conducted, the Västernorrland region is at the top. Here, a nurse or midwife can receive SEK 25,000 for each week moved, while the compensation for assistant nurses and attendants is slightly lower (SEK 22,000).
Moving vacations outside the summer period is not really good, neither for employers nor employees, says Roger Westerlund, acting director of health and medical services at the Västernorrland region, about putting together the summer schedule.
We are too few and so we need to see this as an option, but it is not the first step on the action list.
Limited access
According to Roger Westerlund, access to temporary staff is now limited, not only for the Västernorrland region but in several places in the country.
"I still think we're in a better position for this summer than last. But there are a few months left, so I might have to eat that statement," he says.
In the Örebro region, employees are offered SEK 12,000 per week, a decrease from the previous year when the amount was SEK 15,000.
The strategy is to reduce the compensation slightly each year. We want to have as well-planned a summer as possible, then it is a challenge just before the summer, explains Therese Deutsch, HR manager in the Örebro region.
At the same time, we need to offer care and approximately 70 percent of our mission is emergency, which makes it difficult to scale back operations.
No extra compensation
Some regions such as Jönköping and Skåne do not offer any extra allowance at all. Region Skåne made the decision for the summer of 2024 when they strengthened the general unemployment allowance. On Gotland, only seven employees took the extra allowance last year. The intention this year is that there will be none at all, says HR manager Maria Skogh Jansson.
We want people to recover and have a coherent vacation; most people want it during the summer. Gotland is attractive during the summer and many people want to come and work with us, she says.
