Kennedy, who before he was appointed minister was one of the United States' most prominent vaccine skeptics, states that he will appoint a new council with his personal choices. The new council will be in place in two weeks.
The vaccine council is considered non-political. But all 17 council members who are now being replaced were appointed by the former President Joe Biden.
"A total cleaning is needed to restore the public's confidence in vaccine science", Kennedy writes in a debate article in the Wall Street Journal.
The committee's recommendations are, among other things, the basis for who is offered vaccines by healthcare and under what circumstances.
According to Kennedy, the dismissed members have various conflicts of interest.
Bill Cassidy, Republican senator and doctor, had objections when Kennedy's nomination as minister was reviewed by Congress but voted yes in the end. Now he fears that the new council will be "filled with people who do not know anything about vaccines".
"I have just spoken with Minister Kennedy and I will continue to speak with him to ensure that it does not become so", he writes in social media.
Interest organizations and professional associations for doctors also criticize the decision.
