The Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) has stepped up its work against unscrupulous and criminal actors and is now summarizing that work in an interim report to the government.
A central part is the review of applications for new permits in the care sector. Last year, almost 40 percent were rejected, Ivo writes in a press release. The main reason was that the owners and management were not considered to meet the requirements for suitability or insight.
Since 2024, Ivo has assessed that more than 500 licensed professionals should be restricted in their professional practice. Approximately 250 people have been reported for prosecution.
At the same time, 120 activities have been banned or had their permits revoked within social services and activities under the LSS.
