Daniel Forsman will take up the position on March 1, 2016, replacing Karin Åström Iko, who became the first female national archivist in the National Archives' nearly 400-year history when she took up the position in 2016.
Daniel Forsman has been the city librarian in Stockholm since 2018. Before that, he was the library director at Chalmers for just over eight years.
Forsman is not an archivist.
This means that I will need to listen actively and lean on the archival expertise that is available. But at the same time, there are similarities between the library sector and the archive sector. They are both two activities that rely on information management and where the Freedom of the Press Ordinance is fundamental. And where both contribute to maintaining important societal functions, he tells Magasin K.
"I am very pleased that Daniel Forsman has accepted the assignment as the new National Archivist and Director of the National Archives. Daniel has extensive management experience and extensive experience in developing and leading a geographically dispersed operation. His background provides good conditions to lead and develop the National Archives in the best possible way. I would also like to extend a warm thank you to Karin Åström Iko for her time as National Archivist," says Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) in a statement.
