Emil Bergström was on his way to the final in the classic sprint at the Junior World Championship in cross-country skiing in Schilpario, Italy, but in the curve before the final stretch, the Swede fell and the day was ruined.

Bergström led his semifinal before the crash, but finished fifth at the finish line. Tage Börjesson and Eddie Pettersson also reached the semifinal, but did not advance.

There were no blue-yellow highlights in the women's final either. Both Elsa Tänglander and Sofia Pedersen reached the semifinal, but it stopped there.

On the men's side, Norwegian Filip Skari took home the gold ahead of his compatriot Lars Heggen and third-placed Isai Näff from Switzerland.
