For a life "in the service of literature", Ingemar Fasth is awarded this year's Nagler Prize. During his professional career, he has ensured that Swedish readers have been introduced to authors such as Joyce Carol Oates, Han Kang and Patti Smith.

Ingemar Fasth founded the International Writers' Scene at the City Theatre in Stockholm and initiated its international literature prize. After his retirement, he started the Writers' Scene Bodafors in an old furniture factory in Småland.

"Being awarded the Nagler Prize is both surprising and overwhelming. I see it as confirmation that the assignment I was once given, to create a permanent stage in the middle of the village where the world's authors meet their readers, is now an obvious part of a vibrant cultural life," he says in a press release.

The Nagler Prize was established in 2022 by Monica and Gerald Nagler in collaboration with Svenska Pen to promote translated literature. The prize, with a prize money of SEK 100,000, will be awarded on December 7.
