The jury's justification also highlights how Johan Carlsson Ström utilizes the properties of color and with its help creates a kind of "narrative collage".
"Johan Carlsson Ström is awarded the Becker Artist Scholarship 2026 because in his artistic ambitions he clearly shows that painting is the medium that, with each new generation, manages to attract new interest and demonstrate renewed possibilities for expression."
The scholarship recipient was born in 1985 and comes from Halmstad, but now lives and works in Stockholm. In addition to the scholarship of 200,000 kronor, he will also be able to exhibit at Färgfabriken in Stockholm and KKAM in Höganäs.
The scholarship aims to recognize "groundbreaking creative voices" in Sweden.
Correction: In an earlier version of the text, the wrong year was stated for the award.
