Havana and two-thirds of Cuba suffer nationwide power outage

The energy shortage in Cuba has been severe for weeks, partly due to U.S. sanctions and political developments in Venezuela, which have reduced oil deliveries to Cuba.

On Wednesday, a fault at one of Cuba's largest energy facilities cut power to large parts of the island.

The central and western parts of the island were hit hardest, as was the capital, Havana, which went dark, according to the country's energy company Une.
