The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association made a board decision a year and a half ago that players with club affiliations in Russia or Belarus are not eligible for selection for the Norwegian national team," said the association's general secretary, Petter Salsten, when it was previously rumored that Haukeland would move.
On Tuesday, the Russian ice hockey club confirmed that Haukeland, who contributed strongly to Norway's World Cup bronze earlier this year, has signed a two-year contract.
31-year-old Haukeland played last season for the German Straubing Tigers. He has also previously represented Björklöven, Leksand, Timrå and Färjestad.
