Harvey Weinstein takes the blame during the ongoing trial for sexual assault and has done a telephone interview with the TV program "Good day New York", writes Variety.
On the question of whether he regrets anything, the film mogul answers:
I regret that I let my family, my wife, go through all this and that I behaved immorally. I have hurt many people in my vicinity with foolish actions, do you understand what I mean? But I never did anything illegal or criminal, never anything.
Did not testify
The new trial has just ended, it had to be retried after Weinstein's lawyers appealed the 2020 verdict, where he was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.
For himself, the defendant, the former film company boss, has chosen not to testify. Journalist Rosanna Scotto asks him in "Good day New York" about this decision.
My lawyer said that the jury would still be sympathetic to our side in the case and that the prosecutor would tear me apart if I took the witness stand. I'm not afraid of the prosecutor, but you shouldn't testify if you don't have to, he says.
The verdict will come soon
In 2018, Harvey Weinstein admitted in an interview with the British Spectator that he had offered women acting jobs in exchange for sex. At the time, his lawyer claimed that Weinstein had been misquoted.
It is still unclear how soon the verdict in the new trial will come, but the jury began their deliberations on Thursday, so it will probably be next week unless something unforeseen happens.
In 2022, Weinstein was also sentenced to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles for assault and rape of a woman.
