The first time we voted for Joe Biden, but now we see that he didn't stop the genocide in Gaza.
American-Yemeni Ameen Almudhari is one of thousands who contributed to Donald Trump winning the swing state of Michigan, writes The New York Times. Almudhari lives in the city of Dearborn, home to one of the largest populations with origins in the Arab world in the USA.
According to the unofficial result, Trump received 42 percent of the votes in Dearborn, while Harris received 36. Four years ago, Joe Biden received 70 percent of the votes here – and won the entire state of Michigan.
The Only Question
Like many Arabs in the USA, Almudhari has had enough of the Biden administration's support for Israel's warfare in Gaza, Lebanon, and Yemen. Trump, on the other hand, has promised peace when he enters the White House – although without explaining how it will be achieved.
22-year-old first-time voter Nadeem Alsoufi, who left Yemen for the USA ten years ago, wants to give Trump a chance to broker peace in the Middle East.
It's literally the only question that got me to vote, she says to The New York Times.
Green Light
Biden has made repeated attempts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, but according to critics, the USA's unwillingness to take a tough stance and cut off arms deliveries to Israel has in practice given a green light to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's continued warfare.
Ameen Almudhari's ten-year-old son, Khaled, summarizes with a smile the hope of many Arabs in the USA:
Trump will put an end to the war!
