British tennis player Harriet Dart is apologizing for asking the umpire to tell the Frenchwoman Lois Boisson to put on deodorant because she "smells really bad".
The outburst came in the first round of the WTA tournament in Rouen on Tuesday and was caught by a microphone during a side change:
Can you tell her to use deodorant?
Because she smells really bad.
The comment spread on social media and Dart has now published an apology on Instagram.
"It was a comment I made in the heat of the moment and which I really regret", she writes and continues: "I will learn from this and move on".
Dart lost the match with 6–0, 6–3.
