The advisory applies to around a thousand households in the northern parts of Härnösand and was issued after a break-in at a facility in the water system, says Fredrik Olsson at the municipal energy and environmental company Hemab.

"We don't know whether these perpetrators have done anything to our drinking water or not, but we are issuing a recommendation before we know the situation," he says, adding that there is nothing specific to indicate that anything has been done to the water.

We have no such indications. These are precautionary measures.

The tap water can be used for showering, washing and toileting, but not for food or drinking. Samples have been taken, but results are not expected until Thursday.

The police suspect vandalism and have been on site.
