It was Shaw's show in front of the large audience at Tele2 Arena. The Manchester City player scored both 1–0 and 2–1. Two goals that ultimately gave three points in the Champions League match in Stockholm.
The first goal sparked great irritation. Shaw stretched out her arms and celebrated in front of the Hammarby stand. The celebration created great anger and Shaw was hit by a coin that was thrown in.
The team captain Alice Carlsson was quickly on the scene and talked to Shaw after the goal – and Shaw also received a yellow card for her celebration.
I want to back our fans. You don't celebrate in front of our fans. I say she should back down and not celebrate in front of our fans. And the referee agrees and gives her a yellow card. So that was good, says Carlsson.
She continues:
It's behavior that I don't stand for or back. That's why I back our fans.
Even Cathinka Tandberg, Hammarby's star striker, was critical of the celebration.
It's disgusting. You shouldn't do that to our fans, she says.
Shaw herself says:
It was weird… The referee said it was because I celebrated. But I don't know if it's a new rule maybe. That's what it is.
She admits that she was also surprised when she was hit by the coin.
I haven't experienced that before. But yes, I tried to keep calm.
She was overall very impressed by Hammarby's supporters. Despite the thrown coin and the boos she received.
Incredible. They had an incredible energy, she says.
Manchester City won the match 2–1.
