Extremely fun. This one was long awaited. I have been waiting for this moment, and when I finally get it I show what I'm made of, said Tandberg in Aftonbladet's broadcast after the match.
Hammarby took the lead already in the fifth match minute through national team striker Ellen Wangerheim. And maybe they started thinking about a group final against the top team Manchester United right then, because after that it was the Ukrainians who stepped up the pace.
Two goals for the guests – and suddenly it was Hammarby who had to chase.
But when Hammarby finally got going, Metalist could not resist. Ellen Wangerheim scored the equalizer with a nice long-range shot before Norwegian Cathinka Tandberg headed in the lead goal just a minute later.
Hammarby then extended their lead and it seemed like the matter was settled. But the guests came back and equalized to 4–4 in the 90th minute. Then Tandberg stepped into action for the second time in the match and made sure to become the green and white hero of the evening when she headed in the winning goal.
Hammarby now awaits a final against Manchester United at home at Tele2 Arena on Saturday. United, who defeated PSV Eindhoven in their semifinal 4–0 earlier on Wednesday. The winner of Saturday's final is clear for the last qualifying stage to Champions League. Should Hammarby lose, they will instead face qualifying for the Europa Cup.
