Ahead of this weekend's premiere in Melbourne, the Ferrari star is dusting off his longstanding desire to race on the continent that has not hosted the event since 1993.
For the last six or seven years, I have been fighting in the background to get a Grand Prix, sitting with stakeholders and asking the question: "Why aren't we in Africa?" says the seven-time world champion at a press conference, adding that he doesn't want to stop until he has driven somewhere in Africa.
The Kyalami circuit near Johannesburg last hosted the race over 30 years ago - with Alain Prost as the winner. Upgrades to the circuit are underway and within three years it could be ready to take its place on the calendar.
