Khalil al-Hayya reportedly met with Egypt's intelligence chief Hassan Rashad on Sunday, in what is described as al-Hayya's first trip to Egypt as a political leader.
US envoy Jared Kushner is expected to visit both Egypt and Israel a few days later for talks on the previously presented plan for Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently rejected the 15-point document presented by Donald Trump's peace council, which includes the disarmament of Hamas. Netanyahu has stated that Israel will not withdraw its forces from Gaza until Hamas is "truly" disarmed.
