The Hamas delegation, led by the movement's political leader Khalil al-Hayya, met with Egypt's intelligence chief Hassan Rashad on Sunday, according to the state-run Egyptian news agency Mena.
Hamas representatives reiterated their commitment to following the US Gaza plan, the news agency writes.
Hamas leaders have also met with Jared Kushner, a source confirmed to AFP. Kushner wanted to see "concrete, verifiable steps" towards Hamas handing over its weapons under the peace plan for Gaza that the US helped to develop.
Message to Hamas
Kushner also sent the message that “Gaza can never again be a source of terror against Israel,” according to the anonymous source.
Chairman of Trump's peace council Nickolaj Mladenov and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair were also present in Cairo.
Kushner is expected to continue his journey from Egypt to Israel for a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and talks about the Gaza plan on Monday.
Netanyahu recently rejected the 15-point document presented by Donald Trump's peace council, which includes the disarmament of Hamas. Netanyahu has stated that Israel will not withdraw its forces from Gaza until Hamas is "truly" disarmed.
Condemns Israel's actions
Foreign ministers from several countries condemned Israel's rejection of the plan, Al Jazeera reports. It "fundamentally undermines the collective efforts made to achieve a just and lasting peace," a joint statement from eight countries said.
The statement is supported by the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Israel now bears responsibility for obstructing the peace negotiations, they add.
