The Prosecution Authority states in a statement that the men are suspected of having "procured weapons and ammunition for the organization (Hamas)" and that the weapons were to be used by the Islamist terrorist-stamped Hamas "for deadly attacks on Israeli and Jewish institutions in Germany”.
The news agency DPA states that the men have been collecting weapons at least since the summer and that the police found an automatic rifle, several pistols and "a significant" amount of ammunition when making the arrest.
The police have also, according to the public service company ARD, carried out house searches in a number of German locations.
Two of the suspects are German citizens.
