On Friday, it was reported that Israel had carried out an attack, but it was initially unclear whether al-Haddad had been killed.
Al-Haddad is identified as the leader of Hamas's armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, which is labeled a terrorist organization.
According to two Hamas representatives, the attack was directed at a "residential apartment and a civilian vehicle in Gaza City."
The attack was carried out on the orders of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, according to an Israeli statement.
Ezzedine al-Haddad is described by Israel as "one of the main architects of the October 7 massacre." He is said to have assumed his role after his predecessor Mohammed Sinwar was killed.
