The statement comes after diplomatic talks in Cairo on Friday. Before the talks, Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Monday that the parties had not been so close since they agreed on a temporary ceasefire in November last year.
A source within Hamas tells AFP that they agree on most points related to the ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
"Some unresolved issues remain, but they do not hinder the process. The agreement can be finalized before the end of the year, provided it is not interrupted by new conditions from (Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu," the source continues.
Several media outlets have received similar information from sources in recent days.
Hopes of a ceasefire were revived after Israel and Hamas held indirect negotiations in Doha together with Qatar, Egypt, and the USA last week.
