Djurgården were on course to score a winning goal and stay in the title race with only two rounds left.
Then Hussein Carneil stepped up. The HBK midfielder received the ball in his own half, kept it away from Oskar Fallenius and advanced before passing to substitute Marvin Illary, who scored in the 87th minute with a goal that could ultimately secure Halmstad's place in the Allsvenskan.
“Fantastic attack. My brother Marvin set it up. The feeling is fantastic,” Hussein Carneil told TV4.
“I knew he would score.”
Halmstad are still in the relegation places, but are now level on points (20) with fellow strugglers Örgryte and Degerfors - although with a worse goal difference - with only two rounds left to play.
With the loss, Djurgården are effectively out of the title race. Their slim chance could disappear later this afternoon if Sirius take points off Kalmar.
“It's too bad. We lose to a team that's bottom of the table,” captain Adam Ståhl told TV4.
