"If I'm in shape, I'll be at the Olympics, if I'm in good shape, I'll strengthen a Swedish relay team," he says in Expressen's TV broadcast.
Halfvarsson has had a season full of illness so far, but is now starting to make strides. He led the Falun mile race in classic technique, but lost the victory in the end to Leo Johansson of Falun-Borlänge, who won by 5.5 seconds.
Now Halfvarsson hopes to be selected for the World Cup in Oberhof next weekend. Two places remain on Sweden's men's ski squad.
"I'm not quite there yet, but I'm on my way. I'll need a few more weeks, but hope I can take a step forward next week," the Sågmyra rider said about his form.
