Håkan Mild has been questioned by supporters before. Several protest actions have been carried out against him and in June, a man was sentenced to a fine for having threatened Mild.
After Sunday's Allsvenskan match against Brommapojkarna, the situation is said to have escalated. Home supporters were stopped from bringing in a so-called overhead flag and then chose to boycott the match in protest against the decision.
Does not want to comment
The threat against Mild is now said to be so serious and high that he needs police protection, reports TV4 News and refers to sources.
"IFK Göteborg has not made any police report. We will not comment on this further, but refer to the police," says security manager Jonas Arlmark in a statement to TT and other media.
The Gothenburg police do not want to comment on the information, according to TV4.
During Monday afternoon, IFK Göteborg published a statement addressed to its supporters due to Sunday's boycott.
"When it goes wrong, you have to admit it. We do now," the club writes on its website.
"IFK Göteborg has a responsibility for what happened and we want to give our picture of it. The events on Sunday show us that we need to talk to each other. We are convinced that we can agree and avoid misunderstandings," the club writes and continues:
"There, IFK Göteborg has a responsibility, to put an end to the conflict and that we should be able to move forward together".
Boycotted the match
The club states that new information has emerged about what happened when the flag was not allowed to be brought into Gamla Ullevi. It was stopped because it was believed that the piece of fabric would be used to facilitate people masking themselves.
"It is important to emphasize that it was not denied due to any written message. The assessment turned out to be incorrect and we regret that," writes IFK Göteborg.
According to the club, the supporter group finally got clearance to bring in the flag, but then it was too late. Large parts of the long side stand were empty during the match against Brommapojkarna. Many of the fans instead went to Götaplatsen in central Gothenburg to protest.
