It was on Thursday that IFK Gothenburg received Öster at Gamla Ullevi, when a supporter ran onto the field and aimed a blow at the visiting team's Sebastian Starke Hedlund, about an hour into the match.

The scandal resulted in a lengthy interruption, before the match was resumed later the same evening.

It's extremely tragic and regrettable that it happens. That an individual can ruin it for so many. It creates an incredible amount of work, sadness and also anxiety in our operations, says Håkan Mild to the evening newspaper.

Clip on social media

On social media, film clips of the suspected pitch invader have begun circulating. In the clips, the person is noticeably affected.

Is he as affected as he looks and has gotten into that state, then it's not good. Then I don't know if it's so, or if it has happened during the match. It's not entirely unlikely. But I'm myself damn fascinated by people who go to football and are completely sober. I don't get the point, says Mild and continues:

It's regrettable and damn sad. I really hope that everyone can understand that this is bloody hell. Let's just see to it that we help out so that it becomes a turning point, says Mild.

Several of the club's large supporter groups have gone out and condemned the incident.

"We don't want it like that"

On Friday, Gothenburg's management sat in meetings with employees, partners, and supporters.

Going forward, they will review the security work at the arena, says Håkan Mild.

It will certainly be more individuals around our arena. If you look at the Premier League, there are guards everywhere. I don't think Swedish football wants it like that. I don't think our stadium culture wants it like that. Then it naturally requires that we help each other out so that this doesn't happen. That even when you're in the stands and in a group, you make sure that no one does something like this.
