The hacker is said to have used stolen data to access "parts of files containing information on all accounts in French banks, including personal information such as account numbers, addresses and account holders' names," the ministry wrote in a statement.
Information about around 1.2 million accounts is said to have been leaked.
However, the files in question do not contain information about account balances, and the hacker has not been able to carry out any transactions.
