Malmö FF Stuns Häcken with Late Goal in Women's Allsvenskan Return

Ambitious Malmö FF is back in the women's top league – and pulled off a surprise directly against gold favourite Häcken. A late goal by Sara Kanutte paved the way for a 3–2 victory. It was lovely, says the Malmö player to Viaplay.

Häcken finally managed to equalize with a few minutes left.

But in the attack after, Malmö FF scored again. It gave three loudly celebrated points in the Allsvenskan return.

If we perform like today, you can expect a lot, says the goal scorer to Viaplay.

But it's a new team, there's still a lot that needs to fall into place. But "so far so good".

It has gone quickly since the club decided to invest in the women's team again. It has become five straight series wins since the restart in 2020.

But the newcomer on away ground against gold-tipped Häcken in the premiere could only end one way?

Maybe Häcken thought so at least. Because despite a successful season start in the cup, the Gothenburg team was not at all in tune at the beginning of the match.

Hit the crossbar

It had only gone six minutes when Malmö FF countered with their first Allsvenskan goal and ten minutes later it was time again. Both times with Isabella D'Aquila as goal scorer.

1–0 came after a fine wall play with former Häcken player Katariina Kosola.

The American was not finished with that, but took ten minutes later a rebound on a shot from Sara Kanutte and tapped in 2–0.

It's two team goals, we knew they would make some mistakes, said "Izzy" D'Aquila to Viaplay during the break.

Häcken, with four straight second places in the women's Allsvenskan, came back though. Finally.

With a few minutes left until halftime, the Gothenburg club got the chance to reduce since Monica Jusu Bah was pulled down when she was on her way into Malmö's penalty area.

A not entirely clear penalty – but a clear finish by Häcken talent Felicia Schröder, who shot the penalty unbeatably at one post.

Quick response

It opened up for a hard Häcken pressure in the second half and finally came the payoff when Tabby Tindell equalized with a few minutes left.

But Malmö FF had another chance in them – directly afterwards, too. Neither Häcken nor the TV broadcast kept up when Sara Kanutte suddenly ran through completely free and finished coolly to 3–2.

It gave a heavy point loss for gold-tipped Häcken in the premiere.

At the same time, gold competitor Hammarby started strongly with a 4–1 win against Växjö, after among other things two goals by Smilla Holmberg.

Djurgården turned a deficit into a 2–1 win against Kristianstad after two late goals.

Malmö FF took the SM gold as early as 1986 and dominated women's football in the beginning of the 1990s. That team was however disbanded in 2007 and became Ldb Malmö – which later changed its name to FC Rosengård.

Malmö FF was then without a women's team for five years, although it was close to a merger with LB07, which was then in the women's Allsvenskan, in 2019.

Instead, Malmö FF started over from the beginning in division 4 in 2020 and is playing Allsvenskan for the first time since the restart this year.
