Home supporters at Etihad Stadium were able to celebrate early. Already in the 18th minute, Phil Foden sneaked in behind the United defense, got rid of his marking and headed in 1–0 after a precise pass.

After the break, City continued to dominate and it was time for a certain Norwegian superstar to take over the actions. Haaland broke free in depth, was released against goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and elegantly chipped in 2–0.

Brilliant goal. The timing of everything is completely perfect, said expert Gary Neville in Sky Sports' broadcast.

Man City and Haaland were not finished there. In the 69th minute, Haaland was again allowed to run undisturbed from midfield and set his second goal of the evening to 3–0, which also became the final result.

This is a complete mess of Manchester United, said Neville.

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand was equally amazed by the defensive play.

"Wow. What am I seeing", wrote Ferdinand on X.

The win for Man City up to an eighth place in the table. Man United is in fourteenth place after four played rounds.
