The ship MV Barima had left the capital, Georgetown, when it capsized off the country's coast on Saturday.
After the accident, it has not been fully clarified how many people were on board, and authorities have suspected that significantly more than the officially registered 133 passengers were on the ship.
Now the country's Prime Minister Mark Phillips announces that 53 bodies have been recovered so far after the accident. At the same time, 76 people have been rescued. At present, authorities estimate that 179 people were on board.
