Late Sunday evening, it was announced that Iran and the United States had agreed on a memorandum of understanding, which will be signed later this week. This will be followed by continued negotiations on, among other things, Iran's nuclear program.

It is extremely fragile; we have seen that recently, but it is a step in the right direction, and now we must continue to maintain pressure to ensure that they also keep this agreement, says Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).

UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls the agreement a "decisive step" towards stability in the region.

"The Secretary-General hopes that the parties will take advantage of this new dynamic and redouble their efforts to reach a definitive solution to the conflict," Guterres' spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement to AFP.

G7 leaders will discuss a long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a video clip on social media, according to AFP.

At the G7 summit in France, support for Lebanon, a lasting reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear energy will be discussed, according to Macron.
