Markström made 27 saves for New Jersey, who won 3–2 after a penalty shootout. This meant the second home win in a row against Minnesota, following the 5–2 victory the other day.
However, it was the second Swedish goalkeeper of the match, Minnesota's Filip Gustavsson, who made the most notable save of the night.
In the beginning of the third period, the home team's Brett Pesce shot a puck towards the goal that hit Gustavsson's shoulder and went in an arc over the 26-year-old before landing on his back. Gustavsson slowly slid backwards and, according to the referee, brought the puck into the goal himself.
However, after a video review, it was determined that the goal was invalid – the entire puck had not crossed the goal line.
It was not enough to stop the home team from winning, however.
In the penalty shootout, Jacob Markström excelled again for New Jersey, while another of the team's Swedes, Jesper Bratt, found the right spot behind Filip Gustavsson after an elegant feint. This gave the second straight win against Minnesota.
