A 25-year elite football career, 13 of which were with IFK Göteborg, is now coming to an end. 38-year-old midfielder Gustav Svensson is retiring. “Everything has an end,” he tells the club’s website.

His career began at IFK Göteborg in 2005 – and will now end after the season when his contract expires. This is after 13 parts or whole seasons divided into three rounds, the latest and final one starting in 2021. In between, Gustav Svensson has been at Bursaspor, Tavrija Simferopol, Guangzhou and Seattle.

"To be able to put on IFK Göteborg's A-team jersey as an 18-year-old and fulfill a dream I've had since childhood is hard to describe. To then play over 400 more matches for the finest of colors is completely incomprehensible. But everything has an end," says team captain Svensson.

Gustav Svensson has also played 32 international matches.

He will be honored in connection with the last home match against IFK Norrköping on November 9th.
