The incident occurred on Thursday evening, local time, after Secret Service agents noticed a man “acting suspiciously” in a car.
The man is described as having travelled to Washington, D.C., with the suspected aim of killing the US president. The stolen car contained ammunition and three firearms, the Department of Homeland Security said.
Several similar incidents involving threats have occurred during Donald Trump’s second term as president.
